CEREC 3D® is a combination of dental software and hardware technology that performs tooth restoration on damaged and decaying teeth, all in one visit to the dentist’s office. Developed by Sirona Dental Group the process involves a thorough examination, by a qualified dentist, to determine the appropriate course of action.
If necessary, the decaying tooth and tissue is removed as the dentist normally would do for many similar restorative dental techniques. The dentist will then take an optical impression of the prepared tooth by coating it with a tasteless, non-toxic powder and then digitally photographing it - this step of the CEREC 3D® process eliminates the traditional goop-filled impression tray.
From there the CEREC 3D® machine will convert the images into 3-D renderings where the dentist then utilizes their expertise to complete the new tooth’s design. The final design is then sent to the milling machine; where in about 10 - 20 minutes a ceramic restoration tooth, that matches your teeth’s color, is created and ready to bond in place.

Unbelievable! I had no idea that this kind of technology was available.. In fact I’m going to ask my dentist why he isn’t using this CEREC 3D. Or if he is, why he didn’t use it a couple months ago when I had a tooth-cap put in!
